Veteran journalist David Tereshchuk will sit down with Irish activist Don Mullan during "From Bloody Sunday to Other Global Upheavals: A Conversation" at the American Irish Historical Society (AIHS) on Friday, September 27.
Both eyewitnesses to the 1972 Bloody Sunday massacre in Derry, Northern Ireland, they have spent decades reporting on conflicts across the world.
Tereshchuk will be in conversation with Mullan on Friday at the AIHS as he launches his new memoir "A Question of Paternity: Life as an Unaffiliated Reporter," in which he reveals the central paradox of his life.
Born David Brown in the UK, Tereshchuk has traveled to the world's most war-torn regions - from Northern Ireland to Southern Africa to Bangladesh - asking tough questions and uncovering hard truths. Yet, he has never uncovered the answer to one personal mystery: who was his father?
Meanwhile, Mullan's "Eyewitness Bloody Sunday" is officially credited as a primary catalyst for the establishment of the new Bloody Sunday Inquiry, which became the longest-running and most expensive in British legal history, ultimately leading to the historic Bloody Sunday apology by Prime Minister David Cameron.
Both men were eyewitnesses and survivors of the brutal killings in Derry on January 30, 1972. Now, they come together again to re-examine that traumatic episode and discuss how it shaped Tereshchuk’s long career focused on global conflicts - all while he sought to discover the identity of his father.
