Our sister publication, the 26-year-old Irish Voice newspaper, has unveiled its highly anticipated, sixth annual Irish Legal 100 list, and the 2013 class is the largest yet with more than 170 legal professionals being honored.
“We surpassed the 100 mark several years ago. Our annual compilation is chock full of great legal minds from coast to coast who first and foremost want to celebrate their Irish heritage,” said Debbie McGoldrick, Senior Editor of the Irish Voice and the Irish Legal 100.
“The time is coming when we might have to re-christen our brand the Irish Legal 200. There’s a great desire in the vast Irish legal community to join together with those who proudly share Irish heritage.”
This year’s Irish Legal 100 is a mix of annual honorees and more than 90 newcomers. Among the notable additions to the list this year are John P. McEnroe of Paul Weiss, also known as the father of tennis legend John McEnroe; Microsoft counsel Caroline Curtin; Yale Law School professor Fiona Doherty; Sherwin-Williams senior vice president Cathy Kilbane; World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) attorney Jerry McDevitt; founding president of Politico Frederick J. Ryan, Jr.; and Cuyahoga County. Also honored is Ohio lead prosecutor Timothy J. McGinty, who successfully charged Ariel Castro for the kidnapping of three women who went missing for more than 10 years, and were found in a basement in his home in the Tremont section of Cleveland earlier this year.
Returning honorees include U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts; his wife Jane Sullivan Roberts of Major, Lindsey & Africa; Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, childhood friends Keith Sullivan – a regular contributor to Fox News – and James Galleshaw, who formed their own New York law firm, Sullivan and Galleshaw; Wylie Aitken of Aitken, Aitken and Cohen in California; Brian O’Dwyer of O’Dwyer and Bernstien in New York; William O’Connor of Thompson & Knight in New York; father and daughter combo Fred and Meghan Sullivan of Sullivan, Hayes and Quinn in Massachusetts; Georgetown Law Center dean William Treanor; and a host of top attorneys from leading law firms Hogan Lovells, Kelley Drye, Wilson Elser, Gibbons, Arent Fox, Eckert Seamans, Norton Rose Fulbright, Bingham, Skadden, Cullen and Dykman and many more.
“From San Diego to Alaska and from Texas to Boston, the Irish Legal 100 is a network of some of the most distinguished and accomplished men and women of Irish blood in the legal profession,” said John Dillon, business development manager for the Irish Legal 100.
The newly installed Irish Ambassador to the U.S. Anne Anderson will host a celebratory reception for the 2013 Irish Legal 100 at her official residence this evening. Honorees are expected from coast to coast and also Anchorage, Alaska, home to repeat honoree Colin O’Brien, an attorney with the top environmental group Earthjustice.
The digital edition of the Irish Legal 100 can be viewed from next week on at www.irishlegal100.com. Plans are also afoot to develop an app for access to the current and prior issues.
