The referendum in Ireland on May 22 has seen a wave of videos from both the 'Yes' and 'No' sides explaining their reasons for voting. Among these videos, several campaigns have started including the #RingYourGranny or #RingYourParents in which young Irish 'Yes' campaigners ring older members of their families to ensure they will be voting 'Yes.'
Alan Hurley decided to employ the same tactic and rang his Dad to discuss his voting decision but to a surprising end. Instead of receiving a confirmation of his Dad’s 'Yes' vote, he was, in fact, convinced to vote 'No.'
“I was going to Vote 'Yes' in the upcoming referendum on May 22nd, like most young people,” says Alan, “so I phoned my Dad to convince him too. However, things didn’t turn out that way in the end…
“Please listen to all the arguments before you make up your mind.”
