A new poll shows City Council Speaker Christine Quinn as the leading candidate for next year’s mayoral race.

Conducted by Quinnipiac University, the poll shows Quinn as the favored candidate among Democrats.

The prominent Irish American is yet to announce her official bid for office, but already has the support of 32 percent of registered democrats.

“The race for the White House is over and it's time to look at the New York City mayoral race, where the possibly decisive Democratic primary could be as early as June," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

"The morning line? City Council Speaker Christine Quinn leaves the other Democratic contenders in the dust."

Former City Comptroller Bill Thompson came in second with 10 percent of the vote.  Public Advocate Bill de Blasio has 9 percent; City Comptroller John Liu collects 5percent, and Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer comes in with 4 percent, according to the survey.

The research also shows that the majority of New York City voters think Mayor Michael Bloomberg should not use his personal wealth to support one of the candidates for mayor.

"Should Mayor Michael Bloomberg spend some of his zillions to try to elect the next mayor? More New Yorkers say no," Carroll said.

The survey also showed that Police Commissioner Ray Kelly continues to have the highest approval rating of any city wide official.

Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,165 New York City voters with a margin of error of +/- 2.9 percentage points for the survey.
