With the Obama visit out of the way the Irish can expect another VIP from the U.S. relatively soon.
That would be Vice President Joe Biden, who has roots in Mayo and is determined to visit the ancestral land soon.
Biden and Obama had joked that Obama would be first to Ireland, but that Biden would not be far behind.
Biden is apparently very serious about a stop off soon in Ireland.
He has retained close links with Ireland for decades, and was a prominent backer of the Friends of Ireland caucus group in Congress.
He told our sister publication Irish America that his hero was Irish patriot Wolfe Tone.
All of which will make him a welcome visitor to Ireland when the Obama smoke clears we think. Perhaps September, or later in the fall.
