A man charged with conspiracy to murder Michaela Harte has walked free from a Mauritus court – after agreeing to turn state’s evidence against his co-accused.

Hotel worker Raj Theekoy (31) was cleared of all charges on Monday after he agreed to testify against the two men alleged to have murdered the 28-year-old on her dream honeymoon.

Theekoy’s former colleagues Abinash Treebhoowoon (29) and Sandip Moneea (41) are accused of killing Michaela.

Michaela, the only daughter of Tyrone gaelic football team boss Mickey Harte, was murdered in January when she went back to her hotel room on the Indian Ocean Island.

It is believed she was killed after disturbing intruders as they rifled through her belongings at the five start resort.

Police inspector Ranjit Jokhoo told the Irish Independent that he believes Theekoy’s evidence will help bring Ms Harte’s killers to justice.

“Theekoy was a suspect but at this stage all of the charges against him have been dropped,” he said.

“This is because he has agreed to become a key state witness.

“He will tell the court that he saw the two main suspects leaving the murder room in the moments after the offence was committed.

“As a result of this testimony, the police advised the department of public prosecutions to drop the charges against him.”
