The world is wowed by Kate Middleton's Sarah Burton, Alexander McQueen creation - PHOTOS

Amazingly Kate Middleton managed to keep her wedding dress a secret right up until the ceremony on Friday at Westminister Abbey. The beautiful bride wore a dress from the Alexander McQueen collection designed by Sarah Burton.

Although it seems that even Prince William hadn't gotten a glimpse of the gown before Middleton arrived at Westminister Abbey the bookies knew that Sarah Burton was a sure bet for the designer with the honor of having Princess Catherine wear her gown.

According to Irish bookmakers Paddy Powers, Bruton was spotted in the Goring Hotel the hotel where Middleton was staying the night before the wedding. She was heavily disguised and wearing a big hat but it seems that the secret was out.

The Alexander McQueen designer, Sarah Burton, created the ivory gown with lace appliqué floral detailing and a 2.7 meter train, as well as the bridesmaid dress worn by the bride's sister Pippa Middleton, and Kate's ivory duchesse satin and lace shoes.

The skirt was handmade by the royal school of needlework at Hampton Court. The lace design was hand-engineered using Carickmacross lace making techniques developed in Ireland in the 1820s. The individual flowers - thistles, roses, daffodils and shamrocks - were hand-cut from Chantilly lace and engineered onto ivory silk tulle. All in all, a stunning and delicate gown.

Burton started working in at Alexander McQueen during her third year of studies and returned in 1997. She worked as McQueen's right-hand woman from 2010 until his suicide in 2010. She was confirmed as McQueen's successor on May 27 2010.

McQueen, the much loved half-Irish half-Scotish designer, committed suicide in February on the eve of his Mother’s funeral. His cleaning lady found his body in his £2 million London home.

His Twitter feed referred to his depression over his mother's death was removed. He stated on Feb. 3 that his mother passed away the day before. A few days later he wrote , “Sunday evening been an F—-g awful week but my friends have been great, but now I have to some how [sic] pull myself together and finish with the…”

On Feb. 1, he posted, “From heaven to hell and back again, life is a funny thing. Beauty can come from the most strangest of places even the most disgusting places.” A few minutes later, he posted: “Why people ignore the ugly things in life but within this they are missing the beauty that lies under the rotten fruit!!!!!!!!!!!!”

On Feb. 3, he tweeted that his mother had passed away the day before. “RIP mumxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx,” he said. And a few minutes later: “But life must go on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
The inquest into his death found that he had taken cocaine, sleeping -pills and tranquilizers prior to hanging himself.

The London born designer was best known for his dramatic use of fabric and theatrical fashion displays which made him one of Britain’s most well known brands.
