Voted “The Best Bar in the World” by Lonely Planet the Harbour Bar, in Bray, County Wicklow, is being sold after 82 years in the same family.
The bar, immortalized in James Joyce's’ “Finnegan’s Wake” the O’Toole family have owned the Harbour Bar since 1931.
The pub has passed through the hands of three generations of the O'Toole family. It has now been sold to the Duggan family. Paul O'Toole Sr told the Irish Independent "We couldn't ask for better buyers than the Duggans."
In the past its patrons have included Katherine Hepburn, Peter O'Toole and Liam Neeson, as well as director Neil Jordan, not surprising as it is located closeby to the Ardmore Studios. Bono, Shane MacGowan, The Dubliners and Christy Moore have also been known to frequent the pub.
