Caitríona Perry, the Chief Presenter/Chief Anchor at BBC News, deftly sidestepped an awkward moment with US singer Kid Rock on live television on Monday, January 20.
Perry, from Dublin, was chatting with Trump supporter Kid Rock on BBC on Monday morning, a few hours before Trump was officially inaugurated.
Clips of the BBC interview circulating on social media show Kid Rock - real name Robert James Ritchie - donning a black beanie and black sunglasses and smoking a cigar during the chat.
The "All Summer Long" singer performed at President-elect Trump's inauguration-eve rally on Sunday evening.
When asked what his day was shaping up to look like, Kid Rock said he's been "on a program" and not drinking this month to prepare for the inauguration.
He added: "Today, we're thinking about going to the Canadian Embassy and maybe employing them to be our 51st state with Governor Wayne Gretzky and having a good time because I'm done with work so I can actually celebrate the rebirth of America today."
He continued: “What about you? What’re you doing? Where you at?”
With a laugh, Perry replied: “Well, I’m standing on a rooftop in these very, very chilly conditions. We’ll be on air for eleven or twelve hours. I don’t think I’ll have anywhere near as fun a day as you have planned for yourself there, that sounds like you got the better deal here indeed.”
After taking a pull of his cigar, Kid Rock replied: “I can’t see you right now so I don’t know what you look like.”
Perry said: “Well, I look like I’m ready to hit the slopes, I can tell you. I’m in full-on ski gear here with my hat, gloves, the whole thing, ready to rock because you’ve got to be wrapped up against the elements, don’t you?”
Bizarrely, Kid Rock replied: “I love to go skiing. I love to go skiing. You sound sexy. You wanna go with me?”
A bit shocked by the question, Perry kept her cool, replying: “Well we won’t get into that around here. We’re doing no skiing today, we’ve got a day of broadcasting to do. But, Kid Rock, thank you so much for joining us here on BBC News. Enjoy your day.”
“God Bless," the singer said.

Monday wasn't Perry's first awkward interaction in Washington, DC. In 2017, Perry, then a US Correspondent for RTÉ, was in the Oval Office to witness then-President Trump's courtesy call to Ireland's new Taoiseach Leo Varadkar.
In a clip later shared by Perry, Trump is seen on the phone with Varadkar, telling him "We have a lot of your Irish press watching us today."
Waving over Perry, Trump asks her where she's from, to which she says she's with RTE News and her name is Caitríona Perry.
"Caitríona Perry," Trump says on the phone. "She has a nice smile and face, so I bet she treats you well."
