The Charitable Irish Society will host it's sixteenth annual Silver Key Awards reception on October 15 at The Boston College Club.
Over the last sixteen years, the society has used the Silver Key Awards to honor individuals who contribute greatly to the Irish community in the greater Boston area.
This year's Silver Key honoree's are Richard Gormley, Robert Campbell and Rev. Gerald Osterman who are being recognized for their outstanding contributions to the Irish Community.
The society will also confer a special Lifetime Achievement Award to Irish musician Phil Coulter in recognition of his genius as a performer and hid contributions as a composer in in producing music that speaks to all traditions on the island of Ireland.
Recognized as the oldest Irish organization in the US, on March 17, 1737, The Charitable Irish Society was founded by twenty-six "Gentlemen, Merchants, and Others of the Irish Nation" out of "...an Affectionate and Compassionate concern for their Countrymen of these parts...". To this day the Charitable Irish provide aid in cases hardship and emergency, often working with other local Irish organizations and the Irish Consulate. Their quiet and discrete work and giving frequently goes un-recognized, but has continued to serve a great need 275 years later.
