Actor Liam Neeson joined forces with a prominent Irish-American association to present Irish charity the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust with a check for $20,000 at an event in New York last week.
The Emerald Guild Society, an association of Irish and Irish-American building managers in New York City, presented the trust with the check at the Emerald Guild Declan Hennessy Memorial Scholarship Awards in the Irish Consulate in New York last week.
Society President Mickey McCreesh and members Keith Quinn and Keith Scally were joined by Neeson to make the presentation to Trust founder Colin Bell.
The Emerald Guild also presented Neeson with a piece of art at the event and presented $30,500 in education scholarships to 14 children of society members.
"What an Amazing night at the Emerald Guild Declan Hennessy Memorial Scholarship Awards," McCreesh wrote on Facebook.
"We were hosted at the Irish Consulate by the Deputy Council General, Gareth Hargadon and we presented The Kevin Bell Foundation with a check for $20,000. We donated over $30,000 in scholarships for education to members' kids.
"I was even able to organize for a surprise guest to come to help with the presentations. Thank you to Lauren White Murphy for the lovely piece of art we presented to Liam. I'm proud to be the President of such an amazing organization."
The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust thanked the Emerald Guild for their support and paid tribute to Neeson for supporting the event.
"A big thank you to great supporters of the Trust, the Emerald Guild of New York, especially their President Mickey McCreesh (Forkhill) Keith Quinn (Mayobridge), and Keith Scally- the organizers of the fundraiser- for yet another $20,000 donation," the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust said on Facebook.
"A special mention to Liam Neeson who very kindly made the effort to attend the presentation."
The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust was founded by Colin and Eithne Bell following the death of their son Kevin in New York in 2013.
The charity aims to alleviate the financial hardship of bereaved families by repatriating the bodies of loved ones who died abroad.
