Irish tenor Anthony Kearns has released a powerful new video for Wells of Life, a non-profit that works to bring clean drinking water to over 1,000 rural communities in Uganda.
In the new 60-second PSA, made specially for the Thanksgiving holiday, Kearns, who serves as Wells of Life’s National Ambassador, narrates a visual montage featuring children whose lives are improved through their access to fresh drinking water. The PSA is underscored by Kearns’ rendition of “Ave Maria” from his new solo CD, “With a Song in My Heart,” creating an emotional appeal for support.
“I’m proud to support a good cause – to help bring clean water to 1,000 communities in rural Uganda – because water is as precious as life itself to millions around the globe,” said Kearns. In addition to a robust solo career, Kearns is also a member of the PBS super group, The Irish Tenors, with whom he has 10 CDs and five PBS specials.
Wells of Life, founded in 2008, provides Ugandan communities access to clean and safe drinking water by building water wells. Every fresh water well that is drilled positively impacts the lives of thousands of people – helping to lower the infant mortality rate and improving the quality of life for women and children who no longer spend a large portion of their day hauling water. The organization also works to unite the children of two countries – America and Uganda – to give and receive the gift of clean water.
“We’re grateful that the talented Anthony Kearns is lending his voice to help us save lives in Uganda as our National Ambassador. We’re proud of our new PSA and the hard work Anthony has dedicated to this effort,” said Nick Jordan, Wells of Life Founder and President.
An added Irish connection: both Kearns and Jordan hail from the same town in Ireland, Kiltealy, Co. Wexford.
Wells of Life has had a very successful 2014. “Already this year, we have secured funding for 30 wells — saving thousands, including women and young girls. Anthony’s hard work is a major factor in our success,” said Jordan.
He added, “Not only did Anthony headline our recent annual fundraising gala, but he dedicated a well – ‘The Anthony Kearns 9/11 Memorial Well’ – in honor of the victims of 9/11 and those who defend freedom.” In September, Kearns was invited to perform at the national September 11 Memorial benefit in New York.
Kearns performed at the 4th annual Wells of Life Gala and Auction on October 25 at the Mission Viejo Country Club, which raised $200,000 to support the charity's work.
