Irish boxer Katie Taylor made a surprise visit to a Wicklow club dedicated to supporting children and adults with intellectual disabilities to mark International Day for Disabilities earlier in December.

Taylor visited the Lakers Club in Bray on December 3, surprising one member as he gave an interview to RTÉ News.

Taylor, who is an ambassador for the club, said it made her day to put a smile on the members' faces with the surprise visit.

"They’ve shown such great support to me over the years as well. It’s great to be here to put a smile on some of the kids’ faces, it makes my day as well," Taylor told RTÉ News.

In a post on Facebook, the club said there were "smiles all around" during Taylor's visit earlier in December.

"We had such an exciting day in Lakers! Katie made a surprise visit and some of our members got to meet her," the club said in a post on Facebook.

"There were smiles all around, our Taekwondo guys showed Katie a few moves and she even joined in! At the end of the day, we sent her off with Lakers' rendition of Jingle Bells! What a day!"

Taylor visited the club shortly after defeating Chantelle Cameron in Dublin to become the undisputed two-weight world champion.

Taylor won by majority decision on November 25, six months after losing to Cameron by the same verdict.

"That was the longest six months of my life waiting for this rematch," Taylor said after the historic victory.

"Tonight, you’ve seen the real me, and when I box like that, nobody can beat me," she said, adding that she is open to a third fight against Cameron at Croke Park.
