Kendall Over 30's A Spring 2014

The first full weekend of the Fall season was an underwhelming one from a Kendall Wanderers perspective, as none of our five teams were able to register a victory.

Saturday was a particularly disappointing day, with Kendall C’s 3-0 loss to Southie FC in BSSL Division 3N getting the weekend off on the wrong foot.

Kendall made life difficult for table-topping Southie in Roxbury, but the harsh 15th-minute sending off of Jeff Nowicki effectively condemned Nathan Lee’s charges to defeat.

The A side fared little better as they fell to a 1-0 loss to fellow BSSL Division 1 title challengers Battery Park Gunners at Danehy Park.

That reverse leaves Phil Keane’s men five points behind pacesetters First Wave, and with a major battle to retain the crown they claimed last season.

Kendall B are also in the hunt for honours in BSSL Division 2, but they couldn’t add to their points tally on Saturday as their game against Druids FC was abandoned due to inclement weather with 15 minutes remaining. The match was tied 0-0 at the time.

The results improved on Sunday as the club’s elder statesmen got their Over 30 Fall campaigns under way.

The A side made light of the absence of manager Aidan Finnan to secure a 1-1 draw against old rivals South Boston Bohemians in NEOTHSL Division 2S.

Kendall got off to a sluggish start and found themselves behind to an early goal that had more than a whiff of offside about it.

Steve Brown acted as stand-in manager for the clash, and he made some clever tactical alterations at the break. They included moving himself up to centre-forward, and it was the Co Offaly native who earned Kendall a share of the spoils when he curled home a left-footed shot from the edge of the area.

The Kendall B Over 30 side also had to settle for a 1-1 draw in their NEOTHSL Division 5S encounter with Portuguese United down in Fairhaven.

Shea Leonard started the game in goal for Kendall and it was a dreadful error from the Dubliner that gifted Portuguese the lead inside the opening five minutes.

However, Kendall responded well to going behind and a clinical spot kick by Colin Hamell had them level on the quarter hour mark. The penalty was awarded after winger Tim Boomer was upended in the box.
