The family of Martin Noel 'Marty' McNamara, who was killed in Seattle, Washington last month, is requesting donations be made to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust in Ireland in his memory.

Marty McNamara, 63, died at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington on January 20 following a tragic accident when he was hit by a car while crossing Highway 99 in Lynwood.

A native of Dock Rd in Scariff, Co Clare, Marty had lived in the Seattle area for over 25 years, joining his brothers Leo and Brian who have also lived in Seattle for many years.

A notice on RIP.ie says that Marty is "forever loved and missed by his heartbroken family" including his four sisters, two brothers, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews, as well as his family in Co Westmeath, his cousins, and friends.

A funeral Mass was held for Marty on February 12 at the Church of the Sacred Heart in his native Scariff, followed by cremation in Shannon Crematorium at 2 pm.

In the US, Marty was a member of the Irish Heritage Club of Seattle, which remembers the Clare man as "a great worker and a gentleman, always ready for a good laugh."

The club says: "His sudden death comes as a terrible shock to anyone who knew him, and he will be greatly missed."

In the wake of Marty's death, his family has launched a GoFundMe to benefit the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, which aims to alleviate the financial hardship of bereaved families by repatriating the remains to Ireland of loved ones who have died abroad in sudden or tragic circumstances.

"It is such an amazing charity which helps family at one of the most difficult times and any donation will help make an impact," the family says on the GoFundMe page.
