Donegal island price slashed with 82 percent discount

For those in the market for a private island escape, Inishdooey Island off the Donegal coast is for sale at a considerable 82 percent discount.

The 96 acre island, which lies three miles of the mainland and is part of the Donegal Archipelago, a string of four islands, has been up for grabs since 2011 when it came to the market for €1 million through German agents Vladi.de.

According to the Irish Times, the island is currently owned by Falcarragh man Mark McClafferty, who inherited the property from his late grandfather Vin Duggan. Even the owns has said he considered the original asking price to be “a bit steep.”

However, the price tag has since been slashed to a more affordable €175,000. But be warned, transporting building material to the the island can be costly. Local contractor Seamus McClaffery estimates it will cost between €200,000 and €250,000 for a modest construction to be built on the island.
