Irish American punk band Dropkick Murphys left Twitter, now X, before their criticisms of US President Donald Trump, MAGA, and Elon Musk went viral in recent weeks.
“We broke up with him first," Ken Casey told Variety on March 18 after rumors circulated that Musk suspended the Dropkick Murphys X account.
"We quit Twitter in 2022 when he [Musk] was only half a Nazi.
“Then someone else took our handle, pretending to be our official account, so we filed a legal complaint to put a stop to that - which is why @dropkickmurphys shows as suspended."
Casey added: "Look, we pulled our account because we didn’t want to be part of that guy’s empire.
"But if we were still on there, I’m sure he would have suspended us by now.”
Dropkick Murphys are still on other social media platforms Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
Casey was forced to clarify his band's activity on X after he spoke on the MeidasTouch Podcast for an episode that was released on Monday, March 17 - St. Patrick's Day.
After the episode was released, the rumors began to circulate that Dropkick Murphys had been booted from X, with some major accounts speculating Elon Musk himself pulled the plug in response to the band's full-throated criticism of the Trump administration.
The MeidasTouch interview came after Dropkick Murphys shared a video of Casey engaging with two MAGA fans at a recent concert, challenging them to see where their MAGA shirt and hat were made. Casey acknowledged that the MAGA fans were "good sports."
On March 16, MeidasTouch shared another clip of Casey addressing the crowd at a recent concert, making fun of fans who, again, were wearing MAGA merchandise.
"If you're in a room full of people, and you want to know who's in a cult, how do you know who's in a cult? They're holding up a f--king hat the whole night to represent a president.
"This is America, there's no kings here!"
Casey added: "Anyway, we're going to play a song about our grandparents and people who fought Nazis in the war and s--t so if you could just shut the f--k for five minutes."

Speaking with MeidasTouch, Casey said the Boston-based Dropkick Murphys have always been a pro-working class, pro-union band.
"Our fanbase was lockstep with us," Casey said.
"We had a lot of military support, first responders, rank and file union people, and once that guy came down the escalator and started telling everyone the lie, all of a sudden, a big portion of our fanbase is like 'what's with this politics all of a sudden?!'
"All of sudden? One thing I can say is we have not changed our message from the beginning in 1996 til now.
"Unfortunately, a lot of people people that are in all those categories I mentioned have been tricked to think a grifter billionaire who wouldn't know how to sit in a room with full of regular people is looking out for their best interests."
Casey went on to say he is "100% convinced that Trump is a Russian asset."
He continued: “One other thing Dropkick Murphys has always been about is a lot of songs about standing with your friends and family and the things you believe in, whether it’s politics, or just how you were raised.
“And Donald Trump is the exact opposite of everything we sing about. He's turned on his friends, he's turned on America's friends and our allies, he's a rat and a coward."
