Dublin ranks as the top spot across all of Ireland and the UK with the highest odds of an upcoming divorce for its residents.

While you might still have a Valentine's Day card on the mantelpiece, data shows that searches for “divorce application” and “divorce process” are up 21% and 46% over the last three months, respectively.

In fact, in the legal world, January is known as "Divorce Month" because it's the busiest time of year for divorce filings.

Odds experts at Slotozilla analyzed search volumes to identify the Irish and UK cities that are most interested in getting divorced.

Using Google Keyword Planner, the researchers analyzed search volumes of 50 UK and Irish cities for these keywords: divorce, divorce application, divorce process, free divorce, how to divorce, and quickie divorce. The search data was averaged over a 12-month period (from February 2024 to January 2025).

The results revealed that Dublin is the top divorce hotspot in Ireland and the UK, with 297 searches per 100,000 residents for terms.

Wrexham, Wales, followed in second place, with Newry, Northern Ireland, in third and Bangor, Wales, in fourth place. Norwich, England, rounded out the list of the top five cities most researching divorces.

Other Irish cities in the top 20 included Cork (11th on the list with 80.36 searchers per 100,000 residents) and Limerick (20th on the list 58.66 searches per 100,000 residents).

Conversely, UK and Irish cities with the lowest search volumes include Newport (6 searches per 100,000 residents), Armagh (10) and Southampton (10), suggesting a comparatively lower interest in divorce-related information.

Lisburn (26.68)  and Belfast (27.80), both in Northern Ireland, also had low search volumes

Commenting on the findings, Marie Toland, Senior Editor from Slotozilla said:

"The data highlights a trend in shifting attitudes toward divorce. Increased search interest in divorce-related terms suggests that more people are actively seeking information on separation, with an uplift in searches over the last three months.

"While these findings don’t necessarily indicate rising divorce rates, they do reflect a growing openness to exploring options. It’s interesting to see that certain cities are seeking divorce information at a much higher rate than others. For example, Dublin has a considerable lead above cities like Wrexham and Newry. This indicates that Dubliners could be planning divorces at a much higher rate than other cities across Ireland and the UK."
