FBI files reveal Ted Kennedy rented a brothel in Chile, 1961

Judicial Watch, a conservative website, reported this week that they had been given access to an FBI file on the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy that reportedly reveals he "made arrangements to rent a brothel" in Chile in 1961.

The website alleges that Senator Kennedy, long a figure of opprobrium for right wing groups in the United States, made arrangements to visit a brothel whilst visiting South America.

The documents were originally redacted when released last year, but Judicial Watch objected under the Freedom of Information Act and now claim to have viewed their contents.

The documents, the group say, allege that Kennedy, who was 29 at the time, took a tour through Chile, Mexico and other surrounding countries while he was serving as an assistant district attorney in Suffolk County.

Judicial Watch claim that one passage reads: "While Kennedy was in Santiago he made arrangements to rent a brothel for an entire night. Kennedy allegedly invited one of the Embassy chauffeurs to participate in the night’s activities."

However Kennedy watchers claim that most of 2,353 pages in Kennedy’s FBI file report the constant death threats and extortion attempts made on his life. They claim that rather than make sensational claims about the Senators sex life the files actually tell of a politician targeted early and often.

The Web site for Judicial Watch, the conservative organization, was offline after it reported its allegations.
