Tributes have been paid following the tragic passing of Mayo GAA star Conor Loftus’ fiancée.

Róisín Cryan, originally from Carrick-on-Shannon in Co Leitrim but who was living in Ballina, passed away on Saturday (January 11).

She was the fiancée of Mayo GAA star Conor Loftus, who was set to play the GAA Intermediate Championship Club Final with Crossmolina Deelrovers today (Sunday January 12). However, that match has been postponed after the tragedy.

Ms Cryan’s death notice reads that she is the forever cherished daughter of Joe and Marguerite, loving fiancé Conor, adored sisters Annmarie, Clare, Ruth and Maeve, Clare’s fiancé Eugene, the Loftus family, aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, neighbours, work colleagues and a large circle of friends. She is predeceased by her grandparents William and Mai Cryan, Bernard and Annie Donohue, cousin Michael, aunt Mary and uncle Hughie.

Tributes have poured in for Ms Cryan following her death, with one person writing ‘I was extremely lucky to have met with Róisín and worked with her a few years ago, she was a beautiful girl. Deepest sympathy to all of Róisín’s loving family and friends.’

‘Deepest condolences to the Cryan family and Conor. This is such devastating news. Thinking of you all at this difficult time. May Róisín rest in peace,’ one person wrote, while another added ‘My sincere condolences to the Cryan & Loftus families. Róisín was such a kind and lovely person, my thoughts are with those closest to her at this difficult time.’

Crossmolina Deelrovers also paid tribute to Ms Cryan following her death, and confirmed that their intermediate championship club match against Ballinerry will be postponed.

‘Crossmolina Deelrovers are devastated at the news of the tragic incident that has occurred,’ the club wrote on Facebook. ‘Our heartfelt thoughts are with the family and friends at this difficult time.

‘We have been in contact with our members involved, and they have requested that we all understand their need for privacy at this incredibly difficult time.

‘Our Intermediate All Ireland Final game, scheduled for this Sunday, the 12th, has been postponed, and we will announce a rescheduled date once confirmed. Our club will be issuing no further statement at this time.’

Ms Cryan will be reposing at The Heritage Centre, Chapel of Rest, Church Lane, Carrick-on-Shannon on Monday, January 13 from 3pm to 7pm. Removal to St. Mary’s Church, Carrick-on-Shannon on Tuesday evening arriving at 6pm.

Mass of Christian burial on Wednesday, January 15 at 11am, followed by burial in Drumlion Cemetery. House strictly private at all times, and donations if desired to Grainne Uaille and River Moy Search and Rescue.

‘The Cryan and Loftus family appreciate your sympathy, support and understanding at this difficult time,’ the notice added.
