Gabriel Fereira Motta Valladeres, with an address at Broadstone Avenue in Dublin 7, appeared before Dublin District Court today, Tuesday, February 11, following Sunday’s stabbings in the Stoneybatter area of Dublin.
Valladeres, 29, is charged with assault causing harm to one man on Oxmantown Road and assault causing harm to another man on Niall Street on Sunday, contrary to the Non-Fatal Offences Against that State Act.
Valladeres is also charged with possession of black scissors at Manor Place in Dublin 7 and possession of a boxcutter knife at Murtagh Road in Dublin 7, also on Sunday, contrary to the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act.
Valladares was detained on Sunday afternoon and formally charged at Bridewell Garda Station in Dublin last night, February 10.
In court on Tuesday, Detective Garda David Chapman said Valladares replied “no comment" to one of the charges and responded "I was afraid to be killed" after another charge.
Valladeres is originally from Brazil and, according to the Irish Times, has been in Ireland since 2022. An Garda Siochana said on Sunday: “The arrested male is a non-Irish national, but of Latin American ethnicity and is not an International Protection Applicant.”
Solicitor Michael French made no application for bail on behalf of his client but asked that he receive immediate medical attention in custody, which Judge Aine Clancy granted.
Valladeres was remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court on February 18 where a bail application might be made.
According to the Irish Examiner, legal aid was granted to Valladeres who is not working and has no income.
