Some exciting news from glamorous couple George and Amal Clooney: They're expecting twins!
After rumors began circulating, Julie Chen of CBS talk show "The Talk" confirmed today that the Irish American actor and Lebanese-British human rights lawyer are expecting twins in June.
The couple, 55 and 39 respectively, wed in September 2014 in a star-studded ceremony in Venice, Italy. They met at a charity fundraiser organized by a mutual friend in September 2013, got engaged in April 2014, and made their first public appearance after the engagement at U2 frontman Bono's birthday party in May 2014.
The name Clooney is an anglicized version of the Gaelic O’ Cluanaigh, which translates as a descendant of Clughnach, meaning a rogue or a flatterer. His father’s mother’s maiden name, meanwhile was Guilfoyle.
Clooney’s Irish ancestors were small farmers from Windgap, County Kilkenny.
Amal Clooney is currently on the shortlist for the prestigious Tipperary International Peace Award. She has also worked on the legal team representing the hooded men, a group of former IRA suspects, in their torture case against the British government.
