A six-year-old girl who was seriously injured in a single-vehicle road crash in County Westmeath earlier in February has died at Temple Street Children's Hospital. 

The girl was a passenger in a vehicle that crashed on the M6 Eastbound at around 4 p.m. on February 8. 

The driver, a man in his 40s, and a nine-year-old boy were also in the car at the time of the crash but were not seriously injured. 

The girl was taken to Temple Street Children's Hospital for treatment but died on Saturday, February 17. 

The coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination is due to take place. 

Gardaí have renewed their appeal for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to contact Mullingar Garda Station on 044-9384000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.

The six-year-old is already the 27th person to have been killed on Irish roads in 2024.

Meanwhile, a man is in a serious condition after being injured in a hit-and-run near Dublin's Heuston Station in the early hours of Sunday morning. 

The man, a pedestrian in his 20s, was hit shortly after 4 a.m. and was subsequently taken to St. James' Hospital where he is being treated for serious injuries. 

Gardaí are investigating the scene near Heuston Station and are appealing for any witnesses or any person with dashcam footage of the location to come forward.

In Kilkenny, a man in his 20s was killed in a single-vehicle collision on the N10 national road in Foulkstown in the early hours of Saturday morning. 

His body was taken to University Hospital Waterford where a post-mortem examination will take place. Gardaí are also appealing for any witnesses to the crash to come forward.
