Speaking on “The O’Reilly Factor” Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly had some heated words over history, American hegemony and the uprising taking place in Egypt.
Although both the men agreed that the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is a "bad guy" who the U.S. is "in bed with" that was the only thing they could see eye to eye about.
Beck’s view of the uprisings was pessimistic. The controversial radio host and author said the situation remaindered him of the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand in 1914 which sparked the beginning of World War I.
He also called on the U.S. to “be like Switzerland” commenting that the uprising was proof that the hostility felt toward the U.S. by many Egyptians was not against “our freedoms” but due to America’s meddling in the rest of the world.
O’Reilly responded saying “We tried to stay out of World War II...and it was a disaster.”
They also commented on the protests themselves, on the eve of Egypt’s planned million man march. Beck said he believed the uprising “is being orchestrated by the Marxist Communists and the Muslim Brotherhood." Beck said that the toppling of the Egyptian government could lead to a caliphate across the Islamic world.
Beck then returned to U.S. foreign policy saying “We have to stand for something…[Mubarak] is torturing people with our money!"
