Attempting to make a point in the wake of a controversial painting that shows President Obamacrucified, Glenn Beck has put his own piece of art up for sale: a mason jar filled with ‘urine’ and a toy of Obama.
Beck’s stunt comes in response to the controversy surrounding a painting by Boston artist Michael D'Antuono. The painting, entitled ‘The Truth,’ features Obama donning a crown of thorns and apparently crucified in front of the seal of the president of the United States.
The painting was allegedly supposed to be shown in New York City, but was then pulled after protests.
Beck used the incident as a talking point on his program ‘Blaze TV.’ While Beck readily admits he doesn’t like D’Antuono’s painting, he does support the artist’s right to paint whatever he so chooses, be it offensive or not. Beck points to the U.S. Constitution to back his argument.
Thus, Beckdecided that, with the Constitution as protection, he should be able to create his own similarly controversy-inducing piece of “art.” Filling a mason jar with his own urine, which was later revealed to be only beer, Beck placed a toy figure of Obama and capped the jar, calling his piece “Flobama.”
The price tag of Beck’s art? $25,000.
Beck had placed his art up on eBay before the website later removed it from auction on Wednesday. Beck had tweeted “#ObamainPeePee was up to $11k before our @ebay injustice…"
Apparently Beck’s art came in conflict with eBay’s policy, which reads “We don't allow items that promote or glorify hatred, violence, racial, sexual, or religious intolerance, or promote organizations with such views. We’ll also remove listings that graphically portray graphic violence or victims of violence, unless they have substantial social, artistic, or political value."
Will Beck be going after eBay next, armed with the U.S. Constitution? Only time will tell.
