Airports across the island of Ireland have canceled dozens of flights to and from Heathrow Airport after the London airport closed on Friday, March 21 due to a massive power outage triggered by a fire at an electrical substation.

Passengers booked to fly to and from London Heathrow Airport are being urged to contact their airline.

Dublin Airport initially said that all flights between Heathrow Airport were canceled through at least mid-afternoon on Friday, but later updated that for all of Friday.

34 Aer Lingus and British Airways flights were canceled between Dublin and Heathrow Airport on Friday.

Dublin Airport cautioned that further disruption to flights between it and Heathrow Airport over the coming days is possible.

Shannon Airport in Co Clare canceled eight flights to and from Heathrow Airport, according to RTÉ News.

Shannon Airport said it had facilitated six diverted flights originally scheduled to land at Heathrow Airport, including flights from Toronto, Atlanta, Bridgetown Barbados, Boston, Orlando, and Newark. The first of these flights landed safely at 4:26 am.

Cork Airport also canceled at least seven flights between Heathrow Airport.

Ireland West Airport in Co Mayo confirmed that its Aer Lingus service to and from Heathrow Airport was canceled today.

Kerry Airport does not appear to be impacted as it does not have a route with Heathrow Airport.

In Northern Ireland, Belfast City Airport canceled a number of British Airways flights to and from Heathrow Airport, noting: "passengers due to fly to or from Heathrow Airport today should not travel to the airport until further notice and should contact their airline."

At City of Derry Airport, several Loganair flights to and from Heathrow Airport were canceled.

Belfast International Airport does not operate a route with London Heathrow.

Earlier, Heathrow Airport announced: "Due to a fire at an electrical substation supplying the airport, Heathrow is experiencing a significant power outage.

"To maintain the safety of our passengers and colleagues, Heathrow will be closed until 23h59 [11:59 pm] on 21 March.

"Passengers are advised not to travel to the airport and should contact their airline for further information.

"We apologise for the inconvenience."
