Stand For Truth will take place the same time as Pope Francis’s mass in Phoenix Park
The protest rally Stand For Truth is expected to draw thousands of people to Parnell Square in Dublin at the same time Pope Francis says mass in Phoenix Park on Sunday, August 26.
The protest invites anyone who has “been harmed or abused by the Roman Catholic Church or who wishes to stand in solidarity with those harmed by its actions” to join the event at 3 pm at The Garden of Remembrance in Dublin.

Irish singer-songwriter Hozier will be performing at the event, as well as Mary Black, Roisín O from Thanks Brother, and Liam Ó Maonlaí. The Facebook page for Stand For Truth currently lists more than two thousand attendees.
Protesters will march in silence to the site of a former Magdalene Laundry on Sean McDermott Street where they will be able to leave messages of support. A commissioned art piece by artist Will St Leger will also be on display there.
The Facebook page for the rally said the Pope’s visit will “largely ignore the need to honestly acknowledge and respond to the very grave harm caused to many people by the actions and failings of the institutions of Roman Catholic Church. Grave harm that has reverberated across generations, and that touches every person in Ireland in some way.”

Colm O’Gorman, executive director of Amnesty International in Ireland and one of the organizers of Stand for Truth, said: “we will not allow the victims of the church’s brutal history to be marginalized.
“We cannot stay silent as the Vatican uses its power and pomp to forcefully deny the reality of the harm it has done.”
