Weather forecasters have warned that Ireland is set to face the ‘remnants’ of Hurricane Ernesto in another blow to Ireland’s summer.
With just a few weeks left of a summer which has been underwhelming weather-wise, the public are hoping to finally move away from the rainy conditions that have taken over the nation.
Hurricane Ernesto has already made its presence known in the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico, where more than half of all homes and businesses have been left without power.
When it comes to the hurricane’s impact on Irish shores, Carlow Weather’s Alan O’Reilly assured his followers that Ireland is likely to avoid severe conditions when it’s done in the Bermuda Islands.
"Tropical Storm Ernesto forecast to become a major hurricane before then weakening. The remnants of it will weaken and likely cross the Atlantic next week. Path is uncertain but what is left could influence our weather later next week but a hurricane is NOT coming to Ireland.

"Hurricane Ernesto is going to head towards Bermuda and could bring flooding and damaging winds to the islands this weekend. The latest EVMWF track keeps the centre just West of Bermuda but GFS brings it right through the islands on Saturday," he said.

Previously branding the hurricane "one to watch," Mr. O’Reilly warned earlier in the week that the "remnants possibly catch a ride on the jet stream early next week and could bring the remains of it towards us later next week."
Elsewhere, Ireland Weather Channel’s Cathal Nolan believes that conditions will be milder than the hurricane’s peak when it comes through Ireland through a jet stream from the US.
He explained: "It will no longer have the characteristics of a hurricane. It will transform into an extra tropical storm – eventually a mid latitude cyclone, which is just an ordinary area of low pressure.
"It’s not expected to have any impact on the meteorological conditions of Ireland. It’ll probably lead to a little bit of rain on the west coast and a bit of wind but it’s nothing to get too excited about."
Meanwhile, those heading to Stradbally this weekend for Electric Picnic are hoping that the sun will be out for a weekend where Noah Kahan, Calvin Harris and Kylie Minogue will entertain over 75,000 people.
Thankfully, weather experts have said the weekend will remain largely dry with highs of 20C, which is perfect conditions for dancing the nights away in Co Laois.
