"It's going to be a rather changeable and unsettled Easter weekend," Met Éireann's Matthew Martin said in his forecast this afternoon, Thursday, April 17.

Martin said scattered showers will spread north across the country, and rain will develop in the southwest this evening.

The highest temperatures on Thursday will be 9°C to 13°C, with light to moderate south to southeast winds.

Martin said Thursday night will become "wet and breezy across much of the country as shower outbreaks of rain spread northwards.

"The rain will be heavy at times, mainly in the south and west, and there could well be some localized flooding."

The lowest temperatures of Thursday night will be 4°C to 8°C and there will be "freshening east to southeast winds."

Martin continued: "Tomorrow, Good Friday, will be wet and breezy with shower outbreaks of rain across the country. The rain will be heavy at times and may cause localized flooding.

"Highest temperatures tomorrow of 10°C to 13°C with a fresh and gusty easterly breeze."

Looking ahead to the weekend, Martin said it will be a "cloudy and damp start" on Saturday, with further outbreaks of rain.

"It will, though, generally become a little drier as the day goes on but some patches of light rain or drizzle will persist in some areas," he said.

The highest temperatures on Saturday will be 10°C to 15°C, coolest in the north.

Martin said there is a "little bit of uncertainty" for Saturday, but current indications suggest there will be "a fair amount of dry weather across the country with just a few showers.

"However, later in the day, rain will develop in the southwest, and that rain will  extend across the country on Easter Sunday night.

"Then looking ahead to Monday, looks set to be a showery day, with temperatures getting up between 11°C and 14°C."
