Ireland was named the Best Family Destination in Europe winner at the TravelAge West WAVE (Western Agents’ Votes of Excellence) Awards on June 4 in Beverly Hills.

“The WAVE Awards are a celebration of excellence in travel products, services and destination. This year’s WAVE winners have consistently demonstrated excellence within the travel marketplace,” said Michelle Rosenberg, publisher of TravelAge West.

 Accepting the award on behalf of the country was Joe Byrne, Executive Vice President, Tourism Ireland North America. “Ireland is delighted to be honored in this way and the award for ‘best destination for a family vacation’ is richly deserved,” he said.

“The island of Ireland is famous for the warmth of its welcome and our trade partners have a passionate commitment to ensuring that, not only families, but all travelers, have a great time while visiting the Emerald Isle.”

In these recessionary times, the emphasis is to give all visitors to Ireland the chance to see the country in all its splendor,  and to do so without breaking the bank.

“Value is hugely important for families in these challenging economic times and in Ireland we have made it a priority to maintain our position as an affordable destination and one where you are guaranteed the experience of a lifetime,” added Byrne.

Winners in 44 categories across the travel industry were announced on the night. Readers of TravelAge West and travel agents across 14 Western United States voted from a best of the best list compiled by Editor-in-Chief Ken Shapiro and the editorial team of TravelAge West.

Online research, travel agent surveys, on-site visits and product analysis were used by the publication to put the list together.

“After extensive research by our editorial staff, we have no doubts that the companies we’ve honored are truly the best in their fields,” said Shapiro. “We are delighted to acknowledge them with this award.”
