Irish America magazine announces the 2011 Wall Street 50 honorees

Irish America magazine has announced its 2011 Wall Street 50 honorees, an annual celebration of the best and brightest Irish American leaders in finance.

This year’s Keynote speaker is CEO of BNY Mellon Alternative and Broker-Dealer Services Brian Ruane. Born in Chicago but raised in Ireland, Ruane brings a unique and global perspective to BNY Mellon. At the work of Ruane and his team, BNY Mellon has risen to the forefront of the Alternative Investments Industry, now flourishing globally and especially in Ireland.

Joining Ruane as honorees is a diverse group of some of the most inspiring and successful Irish Americans from across the financial industry.

A veteran of the first Gulf War and former officer in the United States Army, David McCormick is co-CEO of Bridgewater Associates, which is fast-becoming a dominant presence in the industry. McCormick is a former US Treasury Under Secretary for International Affairs, and his background and experience speak to the growing success of Bridgewater under his leadership.

2010 Wall Street 50 Keynote speaker, Bob McCann, CEO of UBS Wealth Management, joins the list again as one of the most influential players in finance. His colleague, Dr. Anita Sands, Group Managing Director & Chief Operating Officer of UBS Wealth Management Americas, is a newcomer to the Wall Street 50. With a diverse background in Atomic and Molecular Physics as well as Public Policy and Management, Sands is also a gifted musician and former all-Ireland public speaking champion.

Harvard and Georgetown graduate and board member for the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, Mary Callahan Erdoes continues to complement her role as CEO of JP Morgan Asset Management with significant philanthropic work. After holding a number of senior positions at Asset Management, Erdoes has staked her claim as one of the most powerful women in finance.

Heading the information technology quarter of finance, Harry Moseley, a Senior Managing Director is the Blackstone Group’s Chief Information Officer and is featured for the first time this year on the Wall Street 50 list.

The honorees will gather this Thursday, September 22 at the New York Yacht Club to launch the October/November issue of Irish America in which they are featured.

The ceremony is considered one of the premier finance events of the year on the Irish American calendar and past speakers have included political leaders Senator John McCain, Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley and former Taoiseach Brian Cowen. Business leaders recognized at the event in the past have included Brendan McDonagh, former CEO of HSBC North America; Charles Carey, Vice Chairman of CME Group, Inc.; Brian Moynihan, President and CEO of Bank of America and Don Keough, Chairman of Allen and Company and former President of Coca-Cola. The event recognizes the honorees for their outstanding success and also for their contributions to the Irish-American community.
