The group Irish Americans for Biden has reconstituted to Irish Americans for Harris ahead of the 2024 US Presidential election.

Irish Americans for Harris, which describes itself as an independent grassroots organization of Irish Americans working to elect Kamala Harris and protect American values, said in a statement on Tuesday: “Joe Biden is a great President who has devoted his whole life to serving our country.

"He will be remembered as the most impactful President in modern history, saving us from a terrible recession and epidemic, and creating a record number of new jobs.

“We as Irish Americans are particularly indebted to him as a founding member of the Congressional Friends of Ireland in 1980, and for his unwavering support of the Good Friday Agreement during the perilous times since Brexit, including his support of Northern Ireland by appointing Joe Kennedy III as US Special Envoy.

“Irish Americans are justly proud of Joe Biden, the most Irish President ever, personifying all of our best qualities of patriotism, faith, honesty, decency, hard work, and respect for all.

“Joe Biden is a hero, period. In stepping aside, President Biden has shown how much and how genuinely he loves and wants to preserve democracy.

“Many of us were honored to be with President Biden as he returned ‘home’ to Mayo and Louth last year. We sincerely hope that he will make a valedictory return to the land of his forefathers to receive the richly deserved appreciation of the Irish people.

“We now honor Joe Biden's legacy by enthusiastically endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for President. We know that Vice President Harris will carry on President Biden's legacy and are confident that she will not only build on his accomplishments, but will continue his commitment to Ireland and the peace process.

“Accordingly, as Irish Americans for Harris, we will do our utmost to elect Kamala Harris as President to preserve America's hard-won democracy and to ensure a better future and economic prosperity for all Americans.”

US President Joe Biden, who regularly touts his Irish roots, announced on Sunday, July 21 that he is 'standing down' from the 2024 US Presidential election.

After his announcement that he is dropping out of the 2024 race, Biden offered his formal endorsement of his Vice President, Kamala Harris.

On Monday, an Associated Press survey found that Harris has secured the support of enough Democratic delegates to become the party's nominee.

However, the AP has stopped short of labeling Harris the presumptive Democratic nominee "because the [Democratic National] convention delegates are still free to vote for the candidate of their choice at the convention in August or if Democrats go through with a virtual roll call ahead of that gathering in Chicago."

Still, Harris responded in a statement on Monday that she is "proud to have secured the broad support needed to become our party's nominee."

She added: "I look forward to formally accepting the nomination soon."

Elsewhere on Monday, NBC News reported that Governor Roy Cooper, Governor Josh Shapiro, Senator Mark Kelly, Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and Governor Tim Walz had been requested to issue vetting materials as part of the search for Harris' running mate.

NBC News added that Governor JB Pritzker and former Representative Cedric Richmond are also being considered, though it was unclear if they had been asked to submit vetting materials.

On Tuesday, a Reuters/IPSOS poll conducted on Monday and Tuesday, after President Biden announced he was standing down, found that Harris was leading Trump 44% to 42% in the US presidential race.
