An Irish immigrant, who won $21.5 million in New York lottery jackpot in 2011, will finally get the majority of her money, after a bitter court battle with her ex-husband.

Long Island mother-of-three Patricia Eisel made headlines in January 2011, after she won a massive $21.5 million jackpot ($8 million lump sum).

Originally from Co. Offaly, the single mother bought the winning ticket with her tip money, she earned as a waitress.

Although she had separated from James Eisel, her husband of 11-years, she had not yet filed for divorce.

As a result, Eisel took the lottery winner to court claiming she owed him $4 million of her winnings.

According to the New York Post, the couple settled in matrimonial court in Mineola, NY, on Thursday.

He reportedly walked away with little more than the $1 million.

“I’m very happy — it couldn’t be better,” the Irish mother told the Post.

“The last couple of years have been horrendous, all the not knowing and the emotions.”

Jame Eisel left the court hearing without saying a word, after he passed his ex-wife gifts for their children.

Eisel, formerly Daly, moved to America in 1995 and was working long hours as a waitress at the Saloon Bar in Long Beach and as a child minder when she won the money. At the time she said her needs were simple.

"I will buy a home, not a house, in New York. Something very comfortable with a big, fenced-in yard that the boys can run around in.

"I know they'll be thrilled when I tell them we'll also buy a dog to run around the yard with them."
