Irish Minister Lucinda Creighton marries on same day as Royals

An Irish government Minister managed to keep her wedding private – on the same day Prince William and his new bride dominated headlines across the world.

Junior Minister Lucinda Creighton married her politician husband, Senator Paul Bradford, in the chapel at Trinity College as the Royals were tying the knot in London.

The Fine Gael minister, 31, said her wedding to the 47-year-old Bradford had been planned long before the Royal wedding date was made public.

She described the clash of dates as a mere coincidence, pointing out that the Chapel at Trinity has to be booked six months in advance of a wedding.

“We had actually planned it long before that,” the Minister told the Irish Times.

The political couple have been together for three years now and got engaged on a romantic visit to New York last year.

Just 20 family and friends close to the couple attended the wedding ceremony and then adjourned to a city centre restaurant for a celebration meal.

“We didn’t want a big hoo-hah. It is a very private and personal thing and we didn’t want loads of people who didn’t know us there. It was particularly special because it was so small,” said Minister Creighton.
The honeymoon has been postponed until August when the Irish parliament and senate close for their summer break.

Admitting it had been difficult to finalise plans for the wedding during the election campaign, Creighton added: “We are both used to organising things.”
