The congressional delegation to Ireland got itself in a bit of a tangle over immigration issues on Tuesday.
The Irish Times had a web headline stating there would be no deal for the Irish undocumented and stating that Congressman Nydia Velasquez of New York was the person who said it.
Strangely there was no quote from Velasquez in the piece and it later emerged that she had in effect said no such thing.
What she had stated was the Irish undocumented issue would be raised in the broader aspect of the comprehensive immigration reform bill.
There is so much disinformation on this issue that it really is a tricky issue for a politician to speak out about – even Velasquez, who, although she is head of the Hispanic caucus found headlines proclaiming something she didn’t say.
