Michael Fassbender considers “Hunger’s” Bobby Sands “extraordinary” (VIDEOS)

It'll be wall-to-wall Michael Fassbender for the next few weeks, as the Irish-German actor premieres Macbeth in Ireland and the U.K. this week, and Steve Jobs in the U.S. on October 9.

Fass was in Edinburgh for the Macbeth premiere on Sunday night. He plays the Scottish king, and Oscar winner Marion Cotillard co-stars. (The film opens here in December).

The 38-year-old was asked what he thought about Irish hunger striker Bobby Sands, who he played in the film Hunger. Fassbender’s mother is from Northern Ireland, and he called Sands “extraordinary.”

“Well I think you know anybody who has the commitment and courage to follow something like that through to hunger strike, you think that person is extraordinary,” Fass said.

“He was an extraordinary person. He was a leader -- that’s very clear -- and just again, somebody who takes leadership to almost a mythological level.

“I have a lot of respect for him. I think having sort of having had a minor insight into what it must have been like, I very much have respect for him.”
