Irish Consul General Noel Kilkenny was honored at the break of the Mayo vs. New York game with a presentation as he gets ready to wrap up his time in New York and move on to his next assignment. He is more than deserving.
Colin O’Rourke was also introduced alongside Ciaran Whelan and John Doyle. Nothing at all wrong with all that.
What did leave a lot of people shaking their heads was the fact that in Ireland for the National League final on Sunday, the children of the GAA were involved in go games during the recess. However in New York, there were no children on the field during the break.
Wouldn’t it have been a wonderful scene to have young children, the lifeblood of the GAA, playing the national games in the background as the adults went about their business?
A mention of the players that have gone before would also have been nice. It is the 10-year anniversary of the Bingo Driscoll led FBD win and the 50-year anniversary of the 1964 League title win, to name but two.
Only in New York, kids, only in New York.
