Some of Sunnyside’s best-known Irish bars and restaurants recently held their Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day Music Festival featuring live Irish music, karaoke and DJs to raise a total of $5,530 for the Sunnyside/Woodside Boys & Girls Club.
Organizers of the event presented the check to the club on Monday in Sunnyside. The club will use the proceeds raised to help the organization with its mission to enable all young people reach their full potential as productive, responsible, caring citizens.
Next on the Sunnyside Boulevard Bar’s list of community enhancement efforts is the Saturday, December 7 Sunnyside Santathon, their second annual festive pub-crawl for charity.
Last year’s Santathon raised $5,000 and collected hundreds of donated toys in the first highly successful holiday-themed pub crawl of its kind to be held in Sunnyside. This year they hope to double their takings.
Toys, which were still being donated as late as Christmas Eve, were donated along with the money raised from the Santathon to venues like St. Teresa’s in Woodside, St. Raphael’s in Sunnyside, the 108th Precinct, the Mercy First Angel Guardian Orphanage in Brooklyn, the post-Hurricane Sandy 94th Street toy drive in the Rockaway’s, the Metro homeless shelter on Queens Boulevard, and the Hour Children Center in Long Island City.
Can you really pass up the opportunity to make some kids Christmas unforgettable this year by donating your time or your gift or your money (or all three) to the Santathon? To get involved visit their Facebook link at the end of this article.
Organizers hope you will come out this year to celebrate the season with your neighbors, having an indulgent tipple along the way of course, and helping make this year’s holiday-themed pub crawl even more of a neighborhood success!
Wristbands for $10 will be available at all the bars, as well as donation boxes to drop off new unwrapped toys for organizations in the neighborhood like St. Teresa’s, St. Raphael’s, and the 108th Precinct.
Local Irish Sunnyside bars and restaurants already scheduled to participate include the Courtyard Ale House, Maggie Mae’s, P.J Horgan’s, Bar 43, Molly Bloom’s, The Gaslight, McGuinness’s, Sidetracks and Bliss St. Station.
