A male in his 40s who was receiving treatment for gunshot wounds after the serious incident in Blanchardstown on December 24 has been pronounced deceased at Mater Hospital Dublin, An Garda Síochána said today, January 4.
The man who died in Mater Hospital has been named in Irish media as Jason Hennessy Snr, 48.
RTÉ News says that Hennessy, who was in serious condition for the past 11 days, had been targeted by the gunman on the night of the attack at Browne's Steakhouse. The Journal notes that Hennessy, from Corduff in west Dublin, was well known to gardaí and was due to stand trial on money laundering charges.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted in the coming days on the body of the deceased male by the State Pathologist, Gardaí said on Thursday.
An Garda Síochána has now commenced a second murder investigation as part of their wider investigation into this incident, which is being conducted at an incident room in Blanchardstown Garda station led by a Senior Investigating Officer (SIO).
Gardaí say that at approximately 8 pm on Sunday, December 24, two gunmen entered a premises on Main Street in Blanchardstown, Dublin and a number of shots were fired.
One of the gunmen, 26-year-old Tristan Sherry, was subsequently assaulted and later pronounced deceased at the scene. A murder investigation into that incident is in progress.
Three arrests have been made so far.
Gardaí said on December 29 that they arrested a male in relation to the investigation. Michael Andrecut, 22, was charged that night and appeared before a special sitting at the Criminal Courts of Justice on December 30. He was subsequently further remanded in custody while a book of evidence is prepared.
On January 3, Gardaí said that they arrested another male in relation to the investigation into the murder of Tristan Sherry. He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda Station in West Dublin.
On January 4, Gardaí said they arrested another male on Wednesday evening as part of the investigation into the murder of Tristan Sherry. He is also currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda Station in West Dublin.
Gardaí continue to appeal for any witnesses to these incidents or for any persons with video footage to come forward, as well as any person with any information on the incidents.
