Katie Taylor avenged her May defeat to Chantelle Cameron with a stunning victory in Dublin on Saturday night to become the undisputed super-lightweight world champion
Taylor, who was fighting above her normal weight of 135lbs, put on a masterclass to claim victory via majority decision, with one judge scoring the fight a draw at 95-95 and the other judges scoring the fight 98-92 and 96-94 in favor of Taylor.
Cameron had no answer for Taylor's combinations and counter-punches as the Bray native put on a performance for the ages in front of a partisan crowd at Dublin's 3Arena to become undisputed world champion at two weights.
Taylor, who was already undisputed lightweight world champion, didn't give an inch during a titanic battle that took place six months after a majority decision went Cameron's way in the same venue.
"Don’t ever doubt me," Taylor told her adoring fans after being declared the winner on Saturday night.
"Tonight, you’ve seen the real me, and when I box like that, nobody can beat me."
Taylor said the six-month wait for a rematch was the "longest" of her life, adding that she is open to a rematch at Croke Park to complete the trilogy of fights with Cameron.
"Let’s get the trilogy at Croke Park."
Promoter Eddie Hearn also declared that a rematch at Croke Park "must happen".
The defeat marks Cameron's first professional loss, while May's fight handed Taylor her first loss in her professional career.
Cameron started Saturday's fight on the front foot, but Taylor fought her way into the contest, regularly landing three-punch combinations in a brilliant display of resolve.
Taylor, 37, did not tire against her younger opponent and finished the fight on the front foot after surviving Cameron's strongest round in the fifth round of the fight.
Despite a five-year age gap, Taylor caught her opponent on several occasions as the fight drew to a close to claim a deserved majority decision win and send the 3Arena into raptures.
