Following the arrest and release of a woman in relation to the investigation into the suspected murder of Kyran Durnin and man has now been arrested. Police have also revealed that two domestic houses are being searched in Drogheda. 

On Thursday morning, Gardai [Irish police], announced their arrest of "a male on suspicion of murder" in the case of "the disappearance and murder of Kyran Durnin (8 years)".

In a statement, they said "The man is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in the east of the country.

"Investigating Gardaí have also commenced searches at 2 locations, domestic houses, in Drogheda.

"The purpose of these searches is to discover any evidence which might provide us with information as to Kyran's current whereabouts or what has happened to Kyran."

Durnin was reported missing in August 2024. However, police suspect that the child was killed up to two years ago. He was last seen at the end of the school year in the summer of 2022. 

In October 2024 it was revealed that while he had not been seen since 2022 officials had assumed that he had moved to school in Northern Ireland. 

Earlier this week, a woman in her 20s was arrested as part of the investigation. She was detained by police after she returned from abroad. She was later released on Wednesday without charge.

As part of their statement on Thursday morning, the police have continued their appeal to the public for their help in the investigation.
