Gardaí in Co Louth investigating the disappearance and murder of Kyran Durnin issued a renewed appeal to the public for information on Thursday, December 19.

In their renewed appeal on Thursday, Gardaí said two persons - a woman and a man - have to date been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Three domestic residences and adjoining lands have also been searched, Gardaí said.

Investigating Gardaí said on Thursday that they have received extensive support from the public.

As part of these ongoing enquiries, new images of Kyran - which were taken in June 2022 when Kyran was six years old - have been provided to the Garda investigation team.

Despite these extensive and ongoing enquiries carried out by Gardaí to date, An Garda Síochána said on Thursday that they have been unable to locate Kyran, who would be eight years old this year.

The investigation team, led by a Senior Investigation Officer (SIO) based out of an incident room established at Drogheda Garda Station in Co Louth, continue to appeal to the public for any information in connection the disappearance of Kyran.

An Garda Síochána added on Thursday that it is aware of the "extensive public commentary on this investigation including speculation, rumours, and theories on what may have happened to Kyran."

An Garda Síochána said it continues to appeal to the public, notwithstanding all the information that is in the public domain, to not assume that the investigation team know the information that you may have. Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, will be welcomed by the investigation team. This information will be treated in the strictest confidence.

The initial appeal for information about Kyran Durnin was issued by Gardaí on September 4. In their appeal, Gardaí requested the public's assistance in tracing the whereabouts of Dayla Durnin, 24, and her son Kyran Durnin, 8, who had both last been seen on the night of August 28 and were reported missing on August 30.

Later, on October 16, Gardaí confirmed that the search for Dayla Durnin was being stood down. It is understood that Dayla was located in the UK.

That same day, Gardaí said that despite extensive enquiries, they had found no information about Kyran's whereabouts - or any evidence that he is currently alive.

As such, Gardaí now believe that Kyran is missing presumed dead, and a murder investigation has been launched.

Meanwhile, sources have claimed that Kyran may have actually been dead for up to two years prior to being reported missing and that a different boy was presented to social workers and also to schools after fresh concerns were raised about the Co Louth boy.

As Gardaí noted on Thursday, two separate arrests were made in relation to the investigation last week, but both people were released without charge.

On Tuesday, Anthony Maguire, the man who was reportedly arrested and released without charge, was found dead in his home in Co Louth. His death is understood to be a "huge blow" to the investigation.
