Over a hundred puppies were seized at Dublin Port last week in an operation involving the DSPCA (Dublin Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), Revenue, and Irish police.

The 116 pups, which were thought to be destined for the UK market, were rescued under the recently introduced Animal Health and Welfare Act, TheJournal.ie reports.

The dogs are now being taken care of at the DSPCA’s kennels, where they have been given food, full health checks and the necessary vaccinations, said Gillian Bird, a spokesperson for the charity.
