Gardaí said in an update today, Thursday, March 27, that they are continuing to appeal to the public for assistance in tracing the whereabouts of Michael Gaine, who was reported missing from his home near Kenmare, Co Kerry last Friday, March 21.

Michael, who also goes by Mike, was last seen in Kenmare town on Thursday, March 20.

CCTV showed Michael buying phone credit in Centra in Kenmare at 9:48 am on Thursday, March 20. He then left in his Bronze-coloured RAV4, registration 152 KY 366. This vehicle has been found parked in Michael Gaines farmyard, just off the N71 at Carrig East.

David Callaghan, Superintendent at Tralee Garda Station in Co Kerry, delivered an update from Kenmare town at the junction of the N70 and N71 today, near the Centra where Michael was last seen:

Gardaí said on Thursday that it is now one week since the last sighting of Michael and that his family have had no contact from him.

Michael's family, as well as An Garda Síochána, are extremely concerned for his well-being.

Michael is described as being approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall with a stocky build, brown/grey hair, and a bushy beard.

When last seen in Kenmare, Michael was wearing an orange woolly hat, black fleece, blue jeans, and black boots.

Gardaí said on Thursday that searches have been carried out at Michael's farmyard and in the immediate vicinity in Kenmare.

An Garda Síochána added that it is continuing to work with and is fully supported by other state and voluntary agencies in their ongoing efforts to locate the missing farmer.

An Garda Síochána thanked members of the public who assisted in carrying out searches on open land last weekend.

An Garda Síochána added on Thursday that it is not requesting the assistance of the general public for further searches at this time.

However, Gardaí continue to want to speak to any person who traveled on the N71 on Thursday, March 20 and / or any person who may have any camera footage, including dash-cam or CCTV, or any other images (video or still) from Thursday, March 20, and Friday, March 21 in the Kenmare town / Moll’s Gap (N71/ R568) area to provide that imagery to the Garda investigation team.
