John McAreavey braved his recent traumatic experience in Mauritius to support father-in-law Mickey Harte, as well wishes flood in from all around the world.

McAreavey was in Killarney on Saturday to watch the Tyrone footballers, managed by Harte, in their All-Ireland qualifier against Kerry.

The grieving husband made the trip south just days after his return from Mauritius where two hotel workers were cleared of the murder of his wife Michaela on their honeymoon.

Alas, the trip proved futile as Kerry won the match but the Irish Sun reports that McAreavey has been inundated with messages of support since the murder trial in Mauritius.

A spokesman for John’s family said: “The well wishes he’s received have been phenomenal.

“They have mainly come from Ireland and Britain but people from as far afield as the United States have expressed condolences.

“John has received letters from people from all walks of life and he’s been deeply moved by the genuine kindness of people.

“He is drawing comfort from the support he’s received from home and afar which, along with his family and friends, is helping him through these dark days.”
