Mother gives birth to miracle son after recovering from "terminal" cancer

Despite all the odds Abi Flynn fell pregnant with her son Leo despite being given a dire diagnosis by doctors.

A 30-year-old woman gave birth to her miracle son having recovered from cancer, which doctors told her was terminal, and after she was told that the harsh chemotherapy treatment she had received would have left her sterile. 

Abi Flynn, from Hove, in East Sussex, England, was diagnosed with a form of blood cancer, Hodgkin's Lymphoma, in 2016. Following two years the young women was told that treatment was no longer working.

However, her tumor began to shrink and her cancer went into remission. Just two days before her check-up she had met her partner, Bradly Wescott (33).

Despite all medical predictions the singer-songwriter soon fell pregnant and soon gave birth to her son, Leo Sol Wescott-Flynn, born on Nov 2, weighing 7.6lbs.

Flynn told the Daily Mail "To see my body dying, then creating life, then my dramatic birth, then bouncing back to life - it's crazy how strong my body is.

"Being a new mum is amazing and surreal, Leo is a very chilled and happy baby.

"I went into labor the day after mine and Bradley's one year anniversary.  

"My journey on a whole has been a mad full circle, I feel like it's going to take a while to feel real."

During her illness, as her tumor has become unresponsive, doctors had suggested a stem cell transplant. Flynn decided against it. A transplant would replace damaged or destroyed stem cells in Flynn's bone marrow with healthy stem cells - allowing her to take higher doses of chemotherapy but the therapy carries a significant risk of serious complications.  

Flynn said "If I had the stem cell transplant doctors said I needed, I worried it would leave me vulnerable to all kinds of illnesses.

"My body had been through so much and the chemotherapy had left me infertile. This was upsetting because I always knew I wanted to be a mum.

"Doctors warned me that a relapse, meaning the cancer in my blood could come back, was extremely likely if I didn’t have the transplant and that I could die within months, maybe even weeks.

"I was scared to go against the doctor's warning and it was a really big risk."

Four months later, doctors discovered the tumor had shrunk to 8cm and died, meaning it was officially in remission. As of June 2019, Flynn remains in remission. 

Speaking about her whirlwind romance with Wescott and falling pregnant with Leo, Flynn said "When Bradley found out I was pregnant with his child, he was thrilled - he's my absolute rock and he said he would help me all the way through it.

"Our relationship throughout the pregnancy was really intense - it had its amazing highs and huge challenges, but we stepped up to the journey and it's made us closer and stronger."
