Democrats Abroad Ireland has set an ambitious goal of registering 10,000 voters for this year's US Presidential Election.

Because of the high level of attention on the election worldwide, Democrats Abroad Ireland's chairperson Patti Shields feels like this is an achievable goal.

“We really want Americans around the globe and especially in Ireland to know that registering to vote and requesting your ballot is not as cumbersome as it used to be – a quick visit to VoteFromAbroad.org to register and request your ballot now could mean that your ballot is in your inbox on September 21 – well in advance of the election itself," Chairperson Shields said.

"You can submit your ballot, make sure it arrives back in the US and your vote is counted – and we can help you every step of the way.

"It honestly takes less than 10 minutes to fill out the information and submit your request. But time is of the essence!"

As part of their efforts, Democrats Abroad Ireland is launching the Irish leg of the Irish Americans for Harris - Walz campaign in Dublin tomorrow, Saturday, August 24 with a 'Tailgate Kickoff' event at KC Peaches on Nassau Street, across from Trinity College, from 10 am - 1 pm.

Democrats Abroad Ireland will be on site with voter registration information and volunteer sign-ups, as well as a merch store and some complimentary lite bites.

There will also be information on how to continue to spread the word about registering to vote from abroad and requesting your ballot at VoteFromAbroad.org.

The Tailgate Kickoff is being hosted just hours before Georgia Tech and Florida State face off in Dublin's Aviva Stadium for this year's Aer Lingus College Football Classic. The football event is expected to draw 25,000 fans from the US.

Meanwhile, Democrats Abroad Ireland says that with up to 35,000 eligible votes in Ireland to deliver to the US - and many in key battleground states - the stakes for this election could not be higher, and Irish American voter participation can make the difference in key races nationwide.

“We know that votes from Abroad have been the deciding votes in key races in the past, and we know it absolutely will be the case this year,” Chairperson Shields emphasized.

“Democrats Abroad has always been at the forefront of these efforts and we are absolutely pushing to do everything we can to deliver these votes that matter.”

Earlier this month, the Democratic National Committee announced that they will invest over $300,000 in Democrats Abroad globally to identify and activate votes from abroad.

Democrats Abroad Ireland says it is proud to be working with Democrats Abroad and Irish Americans for Harris-Walz to reach out to voters in Ireland over the next ten weeks to make sure all eligible voters know to register to vote and request your ballot at VoteFromAbroad.org.

On Tuesday night, Democrats Abroad cast its 21 delegate votes in support of Kamala Harris during the Democratic National Convention's ceremonial roll call.

The strong connections between Irish Americans and the Democratic Party were celebrated all week at the Democratic National Convention, including former President Obama’s comments on Tuesday night highlighting his and President Biden’s "common Irish blood" when describing his ‘brotherhood’ with his running mate.

And of course, there were in-person celebrations, such as the sold-out event at the Gage in Chicago on Tuesday night. The event, hosted by Stella O’Leary’s Irish American Democrats and Irish Americans for Harris/Walz, was co-hosted by Congressmen Richard Neal and Tim Kennedy and paid tribute to former Irish Senator and Chicago’s own Billy Lawless.

Many other Congressional notables were in attendance along with Irish Ambassador Geraldine Byrne Nason.
