Deborah O’Connor, an Irish American teacher at Florida State University, has resigned after a series of foul-mouthed, racist and homophobic comments she wrote on Facebook sparked an internet sensation this week.
The 18 year veteran teacher, who lives in Tallahassee, resigned in an email to the university at the weekend after her vitriolic comments to New York-based celebrity stylist Colin Lively caused a social media furor.
“Take your Northern fagoot [sic] elitism and shove it up your ass,” she wrote on Lively’s Facebook page.
Lively had praised the decision by Attorney General Eric Holder to federally investigate the police killing of Tamir Rice, a 12-year-old African American boy shot dead while holding a pellet gun.
But O’Connor objected to Lively’s viewpoint: “YOU all elected POTUS (President of the United States), Holder et al. And they are supposed to represent all Americans, not just blacks... why don’t these a-- clowns insert themselves into their stories?” she wrote.
Warming to her theme O’Connor really let Lively have it in her next sentence: “You ane intellecutal [sic] fraud, just like your Messiah. Obama has single-handedly turned our once great society into a Ghetto Culture, rivaling that of Europe.
“France is almost at war because of his “dirty filthy Muslims” who are attacking Native Frenchmen and women,” O’Connor added.
Since 1995, O’Connor has been an instructor at FSU, where she reportedly teaches business communication, a fact she outlined to Lively in the following terse sentence: “I teach at a University, you a--hole. What do you do?”
Top FSU officials reportedly took O’Connor to task at the weekend and she resigned on Monday. Her facebook page has been deleted and her FSU webpage has since been scrubbed, with the university refusing to provide details about her current employment status.
Meanwhile O’Connor had a mean spirited parting shot for Lively when she learned he was a hair stylist: “You have a garbage man's job. My profile says I live in Tallahassee, and I'm from NJ, but then again, you must have missed your remedial reading class at the Department of Public Works (DPW).”
Then she reiterated that she has a “f--king Ph.D.” Finally she blasted Lively for working at a job she felt was beneath her notice: “I just looked at your picture and what you do for a living. I'm signing off now. I don't talk to you people.”
She is more likely to spend the week talking to reporters now.
