Tens of thousands of people have gathered in Dublin to rally in protest of the proposed charges for water. Irish from around the country are being joined on Human Rights Day by the US group Detroit Water Brigade and SOS Greece.

Organizer estimated at 1:30pm that up to 85,000 protester were gathered in Dublin. As the rally continues into the evening this number is expected to grow.
Police erected barriers preventing protesters from marching on Leinster House (Parliament). However protesters gathered at the erected stage at its rear on Merrion Square.

During Leaders' Questions in the Dail (Parliament), while the rally was taking place, Deputy Catherine Murphy quizzed the Taoiseach (Leader) Enda Kenny on Irish Water's contracts with GMC Sierra for water meter installation, and the company's tax clearance status at the time.
