Susan Sarandon recorded a video encouraging people in Ireland to re-elect Mick Wallace and Clare Daly to European Parliament.

American actress and activits Susan Sarandon is urging Irish voters to re-elect Mick Wallace and Clare Daly in next month's European Parliament elections.

Sarandon filmed a video endorsing both Wallace and Daly, which was shared on the Irish politicians' social media feeds on Wednesday, May 29.

The two MEPs are both members of Independents 4 Change in Ireland and The Left Group in European Parliament.

In her video, Sarandon says: "Right now in America, it's a very pro-war time and also voices that question that are being silenced and fired and given a very, very difficult time.

"So for the last five years, when I've seen Clare Daly and Mick Wallace doing what they're doing, we can hear them around the world, including the United States.

"They're speaking up loud and clear for international solidarity and social justice, for peace, and for the oppressed people.

"And I can't tell you how much, how very important, and how much that means to those of us in other places that are given hope by them and what they are saying, to hear that kind of truth.

"There are very few voices for peace in places of power and we need that more than ever now, especially, especially with what's going on in Gaza.

"So this June 7, people in Ireland, as you know, have a chance to vote to keep these two great MEPs in the European Parliament to continue the fight, so please don't lose that voice in Europe, I beg of you.

"This June, don't forget to give your number one vote to Clare Daly in Dublin or to Mick Wallace in Ireland South.

"Thank you from me and all those voices in America that look to you for hope."

Wexford native Wallace said it was "amazing" to receive Sarandon's support, adding that the actress has "great politics and an even better heart."

He added: "Don't believe everything the Irish Times tells you about me. Listen to Susan."

Daly, who represents the Dublin Constituency in the European Parliament, said she was "humbled" that her message is spreading around the world, and thanked Sarandon for her support.

In December, Daly expressed "solidarity" with Sarandon after the actress delivered a speech calling for a free Palestine.

Wallace and Daly are both members of Independents for Change in Ireland and The Left group in the European Parliament.

In 2014, Wallace and Daly were arrested at Shannon Airport in Co Clare when the attempted to search a US warplane for weapons. They recounted their arrest and subsequent trial in their book "Coalition of the Unwilling."
